At the heart of our skincare is our unique Hebridean seaweed extract, created from sustainably hand-harvested seaweed from the pure, clean waters surrounding the islands. Rich in natural antioxidants, vitamins and bioactive minerals, its powerful properties are harnessed through our bespoke extraction process to create high-performing skincare for healthy, radiant skin.

Combining the healing power of nature with scientific research, we create results-driven skincare and wellness experiences inspired by the place we call home.

The science behind ishga

Proven performance, powered by nature

Nature has always been at the heart of ishga, but understanding how our formulations interact with the skin is an important part of our approach to results-driven skincare.

Our Anti-oxidant Marine Cream was independently analysed by Labskin Skin Science using advanced laboratory skin models to investigate its effects on inflammation, skin structure and the skin barrier.

The results demonstrated three important benefits.

1. Anti-inflammatory

Anti-oxidant Marine Cream reduced the expression of IL-1α, an early marker associated with inflammation, in both healthy and irritated skin models. The effect was observed at both 48 and 96 hours, with IL-1α levels below those seen with D-panthenol, which was used as the positive control.

Claim: ishga Anti-oxidant Marine Cream can help reduce early inflammatory markers in both healthy and sensitised skin models.

2. Skin Barrier Function

Anti-oxidant Marine Cream increased the production of important proteins involved in maintaining a strong, healthy skin barrier.

In irritated skin models, the cream increased filaggrin, a protein that plays an important role in skin barrier function. In healthy skin models, it increased involucrin, an essential epidermal protein involved in maintaining the integrity of the skin barrier.

Claim: ishga Anti-oxidant Marine Cream supports proteins that help strengthen the skin barrier and protect against moisture loss and external irritants.

3. Skin Morphology

When Anti-oxidant Marine Cream was applied to normal skin models, the structure of the skin remained intact, with no signs of stress or damage.

Claim: ishga Anti-oxidant Marine Cream did not disrupt the skin's structure or produce adverse effects on skin morphology under the test conditions.

Supporting the future of healthy skin

Skin barrier health is becoming an essential part of modern skincare. Mintel’s 2026 UK Facial Skincare Report describes it as a “non-negotiable baseline”, reflecting growing expectations for products that support a strong, healthy skin barrier. Our latest science results reinforce ishga’s commitment to results-driven skincare that supports healthy, resilient skin.

Our research continues, and we look forward to sharing more results with you soon.
