Frequently asked questions
Where can I buy ishga products?
The first place you can buy ishga products is our very own website. If you want to visit a physical store, you will find ishga products stocked in spas throughout the UK. If you are on the Isle of Lewis, you can also purchase products from our store in Stornoway, which is located at 37 - 39 Cromwell Street, Stornoway, HS1 2DD.
Is seaweed good for the skin?
Yes! Used throughout the ishga skincare range, our seaweed extracts and powders deliver anti-ageing, hydrating and skin-renewing properties. Antioxidant polyphenols provide protection against environmental damage to the skin by neutralising free radicals. Used throughout the ishga range, our mineral-rich extract is blended with organic ingredients and essential oils to create each results-driven product.
Why is the seaweed scent of my product so strong?
The seaweed scent of your product can vary each time you buy it as it depends on when our seaweed was harvested and in what climate conditions. Although the scent may change from time to time, you can still be assured it is consistent with the high quality of ishga products.
Like all plants, seaweed has a yearly life cycle. Depending on when we harvest, the seaweed extract can vary in colour/texture/scent which then leads to variations in our products. This does not affect the performance of the product, so you can continue to enjoy using your ishga products, knowing they are working their Hebridean magic!
Why are there variations in my product?
Occasionally when making natural skincare products, our batches may vary in appearance, texture or scent. This happens as each ingredient we use is affected by external factors such as season and climate. Quality is not affected; if anything, it’s a sign that you are using a genuine natural product!
Is ishga organic certified?
Yes. ishga products are certified Organic by the Soil Association which is the highest Organic certification to achieve in the UK. For more detailed info on the standard go to: COSMOS-standard
Can I use ishga products on sensitive/dry/oily/combination skin?
Yes. Our products are toxin free and we use only natural ingredients which make our products suitable for all skin types. If you have concerns, we would recommend carrying out a patch test first.
How should I store my products?
To keep your products in their best condition we advise storing them in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight. After opening, our products have a 6 month use by date.
Where are your products made?
Our products are created using high quality local and sustainably sourced ingredients on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland.
Do you offer samples?
As part of our pledge to reduce plastic use in our business, we no longer provide sample sachets in orders. Thank you for your understanding and for continuing to support us as we strive towards making ishga as sustainable as possible. If you would like to try out ishga products before you purchase, we recommend visiting one of our spa partners who will be happy to help.
Do you test on animals?
ishga does not test any ingredients or products on animals, this has been our policy since day one.
Are your products vegan?
All of our products, except the Replenishing Organic Lip Balm which contains beeswax, are vegan.
Which products are safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
Only 3 of our products are unsafe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding; Invigorating Body Oil, Invigorating Body Lotion and Hebridean Sea Salt Scrub. This is due to the levels of absorption into the bloodstream and detoxing effects of the seaweed plus the essential oils, lemongrass and juniper.
Why are there brown flecks appearing when I burn my candle?
The substance you are seeing is seaweed and this is perfectly normal. A sprinkle of powdered Hebridean seaweed is added between each pour. The seaweed becomes apparent when the candle is lit and the wax becomes molten.
