Hand Hydration Heaven

When it comes to moisturising, hand care is often not prioritised as much as our faces. Our hands are exposed to the elements every day, so it's important to regularly moisturise and keep them hydrated.

Let’s take a closer look at the benefits of taking care of our hands.

Why should I moisturise my hands?

Every day our hands are exposed to water, weather and chemical substances – some of which can irritate our hands. All of these contribute to stripping the skin of its natural oils, leading to dry hands and in some cases cracked and sore skin.

Our hands are one of the first places to show signs of ageing. Using hand cream will help to restore and repair the skin while keeping them soft and nourished. The skin on the top of your hands is a different thickness to the skin on your palms. Being much thinner, it does not have as many oil glands meaning the skin can become drier quicker.

What are the benefits of taking care of our hands?

  • Boost hydration to help prevent dryness and cracked skin.
  • Protection from environmental damage.
  • Skin will be soft, nourished and healthy.

How often should I moisturise?

This will vary from person to person as climate and occupation plays a big part. A healthcare worker who frequently washes their hands during the day and lives in a cold climate will need to moisturise more than someone who lives in a warmer climate and doesn’t need to wash their hands as often. In general, we would recommend moisturising your hands twice a day, in the morning and evening.

Our hands work hard for us every day so it’s important we look after them. Apply our Hydrating Hand Cream after you have applied your facial moisturiser in the mornings and evenings. It can be a lovely nighttime ritual, whilst taking in the calming essential oils.

What makes ishga Hydrating Hand Cream different?

Our Hydrating Hand Cream will nourish and soothe like most other hand creams, but there is one ingredient that sets it apart from the rest. It contains Lus Nan Laogh (Lus-Na-Loy), a Hebridean healing tonic that is made from the aquatic plant Menyanthes Trifoliata (also known as Bogbean) which is found in the peat-bottomed lochs of the Hebrides. Flowering occurs during the months of May to July, so there is only a short window for our team to collect the plant for a year’s supply.

The plant is infused into our legendary Hebridean spring water, which creates an ingredient that is highly effective in healing inflammatory skin conditions. The addition of natural moisturisers like argan oil and aloe vera provide luxurious hydration and nourishment.
